another one of u2's masterpieces. the thological anthology put forward by the unknown personage was very profound. it is times like this, that unless these things are pointed out you don't always realise the full extent of Bonos' thinking! Yes, that "let me in the sound" bit on Boots is the best part of the song. I actually don't care for the rest of it!

I'd love to do a post about Moment of Surrender. It's such an amazing song. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. It did bring me to tears the other day when I listened to it on the subway.

I don't think Bono is any more or less explicit. I could point to so many references on each of the albums of explicit nature. The guy has loved Jesus for so long and has written so many lyrics about that. I think October is by far the most explicit, but each of the other albums has used not-so-coded language. For example, on Achtung Baby's Ultra Violet, he sings "baby baby baby light my way," and he's not singing about some lover nicknamed baby, he's talking about THE CHRIST CHILD.

For more of those types of examples, I recommend Beth Maynard's book Get Up Off Your Knees: Preaching the U2 Catalog. I also recommend Bono In Conversation if you want to hear about Bono's faith directly from Bono.

The more I listen to the new single, the more I think the bridge is my favorite part, where he yells "let me in the sound." But I didn't realize it was the crux of the record til you pointed it out. Which completely makes sense, having heard the other songs you reference.

Anyway, great connections. I wonder if you think Bono is getting more or less explicit in his old age and why/why not?

Oh and if you ever feel so inclined, I think their new song "Moment of Surrender" deserves its own post. Too much Gospel significance to pass up, no?
